I had received a comment in yesterdays post about the fed cut and mortgage rates. The question was if fed cuts don’t affect mortgage rates than what does? I was unsure on this one so I turned to the expert.

The Fed has cut rates by 75 basis points. These cuts in the federal funds rate does not neccessarily mean that mortgage rates will go down. Rates may go down after this week’s rate cut, but they also may go up, as they did after the Fed’s rate cuts in January cuts.
It is impossible to know what impact the Federal rate cut will have on mortgage rates, or which direction rates will go. For this reason, buyers are urged not to wait for the Cecil County real estate market to bottom before looking for a mortgage. If you are looking to purchase a Cecil County home now may be a good time to do so since mortgage rates are relatively low.

For my last aricle on this subject I am going to discuss the Cecil County real estate market and the Harford County real estate market reports. These reports are offered through my mls (multiple listing service). Here in Cecil County we use MRIS (Metropolitan Regional Information Systems, Inc.) for this service. The MRIS reports are published monthly, quarterly and they also do a year end report. Since I have already published January’s Cecil County real estate market statistics , February’s Cecil County real estate market statistics and February’s Harford County real estate market statistics, I am going to go over the year end real estate market statistics.

There was a town hall meeting held at the Aberdeen High School in Harford County on Monday March 10, 2008. This was the third meeting that they have held so far. The next one will be in Havre De Grace. The date, place and time have not been released yet. Did anyone attend this meeting?
According to ABC 2 News, The Base Realignment and Closure Process or “BRAC” will bring thousands of jobs to Aberdeen, along with Ft. Meade in Columbia. “People say ‘When is it coming?’ It’s slowly happening as we speak right now,” said David Craig, the Harford County Executive.
Craig says about 500 new residents have already moved to Harford County because of BRAC. Eight intersections near the Proving Ground will have to be improved, most of them along Rt. 40. Other roads that lead to the base, including Rt. 22, will have to be widened.
